Looking 101 (2022)

Collection Info
Color photograph of a cup and bowl of peaches on a white cutting board with a light green background

These highlights were part of Looking 101, a 2022 exhibition that supported Northwestern University’s undergraduate curriculum with an emphasis on first-year students, and tools built around allowing anyone to observe, critique, reflect and express their ideas in front of a work of art.

All works on view were from The Block’s collection, selected in dialogue with faculty. The main focus was on helping students develop observational and analytical skills through close looking and discussion. Faculty could schedule the gallery space for independent use with their classes or in partnership with Block curatorial staff, who were available to lead object-based discussions using artwork as prompts for conversations related to the curriculum.

Faculty members interested in learning more about the Block Teaching Gallery are encouraged to contact Essi Rönkkö at essi.ronkko@northwestern.edu.
