These highlights are part of Looking 101, a 2024 exhibition that supports Northwestern University’s undergraduate curriculum with an emphasis on first-year students. This gallery offered tools built for visitors to observe, critique, reflect, and express their ideas in front of a work of art.
All works on view are from The Block’s collection, selected in dialogue with faculty. The main focus is on helping students develop observational and analytical skills through close looking and discussion. Faculty can schedule the gallery space for independent use with their classes or in partnership with Block curatorial staff, who are available to lead object-based discussions using artwork as prompts for conversations related to the curriculum.
Faculty members interested in learning more about the Block Teaching Gallery are encouraged to contact Essi Rönkkö at essi.ronkko@northwestern.edu.
