Campus Art Walk

Collection Info
Organic triangular shape with three round edges mounted on a bronze cylinder

The Campus Art Walk includes 16 sculptures by 13 artists, including Jean Arp, Barbara Hepworth, Jean Robert Ipoustéguy, Jacques Lipchitz, Joan Miró, and Henry Moore. Donated by Mary and Leigh Block and other Northwestern supporters, these 20th-century works are located within the Block building and the nearby Ryan Center for the Musical Arts as well as in several adjacent outdoor spaces.

Visitors are invited to explore the Campus Art Walk on their own or to follow a map available at The Block’s Visitor Services desk and on our website. On the website, you will also find a free Campus Art Walk mobile guide and audio tour, accessible by cell phone.

Artworks are located in three main locations:

THE SCULPTURE GARDEN

The majority of artworks on the Campus Art Walk are located in the sculpture garden between the museum and Northwestern’s Main Library. The garden was designed by renowned Chicago architect John Vinci to surround the museum as part of Northwestern’s lushly landscaped campus.

INSIDE THE BLOCK

Jacques Lipchitz’s Instruments de musique avec compotier et poire (Musical Instruments with Compote and Pear) and two other sculptures are located in The Block staircase.

RYAN CENTER FOR THE MUSICAL ARTS

Two artworks, including Joan Miró’s Constellation, have been relocated indoors—across the Arts Circle in the Ryan Center lobby.

OTHER SCULPTURE AROUND THE SITE

In addition to the three named areas, sculpture is displayed in various public spaces and gardens near the Block building.
